While listening to the radio today, a song was played that i LOATHE (number 2 on this list) even though I know so many people adore it….So I got to thinking maybe it would be interesting to compile a list of songs that I hate that perhaps I shouldn’t….
You know the ones….everyone bangs on about them being classics, but for me they just turn my guts inside out with rage and annoyance.
By this I’m not including obvious songs such as The Birdie Song or Mr Blobby, they go without saying…and anyone who brought those records probably needs psychiatric help…
1) Love Shack (B52′s) – I know, I know – it’s happy, it’s jolly – blah, blah, blah – but it’s played at every bloody wedding I’ve every been to. And it’s too sickly and I’m British – I don’t do sickly…
2) Seven Seconds (Neneh Cherry) – Reminds me of being a teenager and kissing a boy with lips like a cold rubber dingy. I come out in a cold sweat everytime I hear it..
3) Hello (Lionel Richie) – Have you seen the video? Enough said.
4) I Just Called To Say I love You (Stevie Wonder) – One of the greatest songwriters of our generation, and this is the ony one to get to number one – pure pulp
5) Yesterday (Beatles) – Now this is coming from a HUGE Beatles fan. I love them. But this song is montonous drivel and totally overplayed, sorry…
6) Everybody Hurts (REM) – I guess I never really got onto the REM boat, but this song especially just makes me want to slash my wrists…what’s the point?
7) You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling (The Righteous Brothers) – This song just leaves me cold, makes me think of a dirty old man for some reason….
Should I Stay Or Should I Go (The Clash)- This annoys the hell out of me, because (being a pendantic bitch) the lyrics say – ‘If I stay there will be trouble, and if I go there will be double’ – therefore they answered their own question, rendering the song pointless…
9) Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve) – The best part about it (i.e the strings) are nicked and it just goes on and on without doing much else…
10) Angels (Robbie Williams) – I’m sorry, this gets turned on and I get turned off. Why is this voted number one in every countdown nowadays?
Right, that’s me done. Loads of you may disagree and there was plenty that I could have included…but who I am to say? I still love Neil Diamond and the Thompson Twins for Christ’s Sake!
